2014 THE COOPERATION HISTORY IN THE PHOTOGRAPHIC ARCHIVES OF LEGACOOP NAZIONALE

During 2012 the project of digitalization of the redactional photographic archives of Editrice Cooperativa di Legacoop Nazionale was started. At the end of the first stage i.e. the conversion of about 22.000 images, the bibliographic cataloging of the fund will be carried out, by associating the bibliographic description to the related immage. It will then be possible, in consulting the online catalog of the Centre, to see also the images described.

The collection dates back to the years 1950 up to the years 1980. The pictures show working scenes, institutional and associative events of cooperative companies or organisations representing the cooperation, both Italian and foreign, pictures of cooperative directors and complete photographic services concerning congresses and politic and trade union events.

2011 DATA BANK OF "LA COOPERAZIONE ITALIANA 1887-1980"

The project was developped in the frame of the activities carried out in cooperation with the IBACN of Emilia-Romagna Region and promoted the digitalization of the periodical "La Cooperazione Italiana" of years 1887 to 1980, in order to make them available to be consulted online, on the web site of the Centre.

To make possible this digitalization work it has been necessary to deal in advance with the conservative restoration of some volumes.
There is a research index indicating the data concerning:

  • year and month of publication
  • number and date of publication

Through the index the magazine pages are accessible in jpg format and are enriched by the bibliographical information contained in the xml file.

The periodical edited by the Federazione nazionale delle cooperative in 1887 and up to now published by Legacoop, is a precious and essential source for advanced scholars in the field of cooperation, since it covers a time of more than one hundred years.

The digitalization of the magazine was made keeping in consideration the indications of the Biblioteca Digitale Italiana (Italian Digital Library), i.e. using a set of metadata (standard MAG), that can allow politics of integration and valorization of Italian electronic resources.

2008 VIRTUAL MUSEUM OF COOPERATIVES

In April 2003, among its Special Projects, the Cesar foundation created the Virtual Museum of Cooperatives after a brilliant insight of its President, Enea Mazzoli.

The effort produced the first Italian web site containing a rich, historically organised collection of references, documents and information on cooperatives in Italy and the world. The construction and launch of the site on the web were supported by an ad-hoc scientific Committee made up of the originators of the project (Cesar Foundation, Luzzati Institute) and the Presidents of the four Cooperative Centrals.

Professor Vera Negri Zamagni was appointed as head of the Committee and she resorted to the assistance of two researchers of the Bologna University (Ms. Patrizia Battilani and Mr. Tito Menzani).

In 2008, the Unipolis Foundation offered the Italian Documentation Centre to acquire and manage the " Virtual Museum of Cooperatives" web site. That was an opportunity to safeguard and enhance the precious previous work in the site, as well as to enrich the information supplied by the current Italian Documentation Centre web site.

On this basis, we started the process of amalgamation of the contents in the Virtual Museum and our Italian Documentation Centre web sites, designing a structure which can properly integrate the newly added contents and allow users to navigate through clear, user-friendly menus.

ITALIAN BIBLIOGRAPHY ON COOPERATIVES

Our Centre and the Emilia-Romagna Document and Book Heritage Service decided to conduct a large research and survey of Italian publications in the area of cooperatives. Data collection proceeded from the records in the Catalogue of the Centre and from a considerable set of documents and information gathered by Prof. Ugo Bellocchi during his many years of studies on cooperatives. Bibliographic data were enlarged through further thematic researches and then recorded in line with international library cataloguing standards and organised by subject.
The bibliography includes 6,065 entries.
This bibliographic work generated the on-line "Bibliocoop" data bank, which contains the same information as the book, but is regularly updated with additional news.

NEW LEGACOOP FLAG

On behalf of Legacoop, the Centre developed their new flag and a video which offers a historical overview of the Legacoop mark. The video contains a concise narration of the cooperatives movement, from the early mutual benefit societies of the late 19th century to contemporary businesses.
The video identifies the symbols which were used by cooperatives over more than one century: allegorical drawings, medals, flags, postcards. The video illustrates the process that led to the development of the new flag, thus showing that an image can become the narration of an economic, social project. The new flag and the video were presented during the National Legacoop Assembly in Rome on February 5-6, 2004.

ARCHIVING THE WEB –INTERPARES INTERNATIONAL PROJECT

InterPARES (International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems; Luciana Duranti - InterPARES Project Director, University of British Columbia) is an international project set up by several experts, archivists and computer engineers working in national archives and private organisations all over the world. The project objective is to develop the techniques required for the long-term preservation of authentic records in digital systems. Along these lines, we officially participated into this joint effort by analysing and studying the Legacoop Bologna web site.

COOPERATING IS MY JOB CD-ROM

"Cooperating is my job" is a CD-Rom produced by the Italian Documentation Centre on Cooperatives and Social Economy to promote the knowledge and dissemination of the cooperative industry. This CD-Rom is mainly intended for students of upper high-school grades, but it can also be useful for the larger public with interests in the cooperatives sector.
What is a cooperative? Why selecting this form of partnership to start a business? What makes a cooperative different from any other company?
Published in April 2001, this CD-Rom answers these and similar questions, offering a brief overview of how a cooperative lives and which is the historical, economic and social context for a businessperson to create and enhance his or her own cooperative entrepreneurship.
The information in the CD-Rom does not satisfy any possible curiosity, but helps in having a sufficiently clear idea about cooperatives and, especially, indicates the required steps to anyone who wants to engage in this undertaking.

DATA BANK OF THE COOPERATIVES REGISTER OF THE CITY AND PROVINCE OF BOLOGNA

The data bank includes all cooperatives incorporated in the city and province of Bologna from 1883 to 1987. This research is the first survey of official sources concerning the cooperatives movement which unfolded in over one hundred years. The data bank contains the descriptions of more than 6,000 cooperatives and consortia. The history of each official entry was reconstructed identifying business name changes, mergers or winding-ups.
By consulting this data bank at the Centre it is possible to find expedite answers to questions such as cooperative genealogies, thematic lists, and type or community based listings of the cooperatives founded in the City and Province of Bologna until 1987, when the project was concluded.
