Gustavo Trombetti.
Bologna, 1947.

Gustavo Trombetti was born in Castel San Pietro Terme (Emilia-Romagna) on October 12th 1905 son of Ambrogio Trombetti and Virginia Biavati. Active political militant connected to the communist movement, he was compelled to go away from Bologna and became clandestine during the twenty years of the fascist regime, being also prisoner in the prison of Turi (Bari), where he was acquainted with Antonio Gramsci. The “Quaderni del carcere” (Copy-books from prison) written by Gramsci during his reclusion were brought out from the prison properly by Trombetti.

Member of the CNL from autumn 1944, he came back to Bologna and became Communal Counselor after the Liberation. Since 1945 Trombetti joined his life to Camst's, one of the first cooperatives of restauration founded in this field, traditionally considered far from the cooperation experience. As he remembered in his last interview: “The category of workers in canteens and hotels is very special ; restaurateurs use to become owners of the restaurants and bar where they work. They do not have the cooperative mentality and behave only according to an individual way of thought. It had been very difficult to convince restaurateurs and hotel-keepers to become associated in cooperative. ”

Gustavo Trombetti in more than forty years work in Camst carried out the functions of President and General Manager.

He died in Bologna on April 27th 1991.
